The Black Phone

Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well even without a sequel. Set in the late 70s in Denver, multiple kidnappings has left the youth anxious. The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the conflict between spirituality and money, it's a knockout win for materialism in Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation about the fallen televangelist and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who declares early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals commence profiting from the people's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of bad interior design, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, yet Chastain succeeds to depict the character in a likable light. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, on Film4
