The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
