Supporters Urge Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are urging that a man who leaped a fence and seized the performer during the recent Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the individual from Australia shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the performers walked down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents indicated that he was set to be present on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed includes clips of him interrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," commented an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further response on Instagram.
Several fans also criticised event staff at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had gathered in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had waited for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected bond between two distinct sorceresses.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a rosé glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, winning two for best costume and production design.
