Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be raised about his future following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above,” the coach commented.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy

Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Player Reaction

The manager lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period like this with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
