A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led observers to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
