The Manager's Stance on Celtic

McKenna referred to Celtic as "an enormous soccer institution" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they won just four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the second division and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"I have not had any of those conversations," the London-born ex- Irish young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a unique position here at a remarkable team. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Context and Contractual Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about these. "I don't think all people has to publicly and declare what they were, but of course it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna signed a new four-year contract in 2024 and was questioned about his reported buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Ipswich manager forever. I know that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I am here."

Bellamy's Position

The former striker represented Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the ex- Welsh striker is minded to finish the current World Cup qualification, a position that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

Wales are presently in third place in their World Cup group behind leaders Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of making those, due to a productive European competition campaign, even if they not finish as their group second place.

Considering his present position, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would not be available until after the play-offs at the minimum.
