In a unexpected crossover event that challenges usual expectations, the game developer has revealed an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, including free extra story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Uncovered

According to the official statement, "A strange confrontation pulls heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where rumors of banned rituals and terrifying transformations resonate through the obscurity." The narrative presents a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with venturing into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a secret cult.

The adventure centers on "bizarre experiments and a fearsome enemy" and is accessible to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Iconic Settings and Metamorphoses

The preview highlights the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This important location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer ends with a powerful sequence showing a character, likely the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Rewards and Extra Features

Players who finish the adventure will receive an unique katana in addition to several items secreted throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Special weapons
• Survey Corps mount

Third Free Story Addition

This patch also adds the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Enigma." This playful quest pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic techniques: Naoe introduces a dramatic interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "A Puzzlement" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may finally clarify some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This marks hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with famous anime properties. The series previously showcased a 2020 crossover story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally featured a quest that unmistakably referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
