American Military Executes Deadly Strike in Eastern Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities
As stated by a senior defense official, the American armed forces carried out a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.
“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were injured.”
Context and Prior Strikes
The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to increase the military presence.
Just on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Actions Amid Scrutiny
The government has encountered growing demands to make public video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.
Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs headed to the US, remarks from a senior aide seemed to confirm a broader political objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the president “wants to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
